OTHER MEETING REMINDERS

We suggest a $5 per person DONATION when you sign in. This is our main source of funding for our room rental and other ongoing expenses. Thank you all for the generosity you have shown!

Please pick up free Oregon 912 BUSINESS CARDS to have with you for those times when you strike up a conversation with someone. They have room for you to write your contact information or our next meeting date.

 BRING FRIENDS!

THANK YOU to the nearly 100 people who attended last month's Member Dialogue and Opportunity Fair and to all who signed on to one or more committees.  Most committees will have met by our October meeting, at which brief updates will be given.

IF YOU MISSED THE MEETING, Committee Options Selection sheets will be available at the meeting OR go to our website, click on About Us, then Organization. Below the list of Board members is the list of Committee Job Descriptions and needs. Jot down your selections, then list your choices on the Contact Us form. Check Other, then tell us where you would like to help in the Additional Information space. Your selections will be forwarded to the appropriate committee chair. We have great challenges ahead of us and welcome fresh ideas and extra hands!

DARKNESS TO LIGHT

Do you want to make a difference this Halloween? When trick-or-treaters knock on your door, along with that piece of candy, hand them a pocket Constitution stamped with "provided by Oregon912project.org" to take home. If you didn't preorder your supply, there will be plenty on hand to purchase at the meeting. At 3 for $1, they are a great investment not only for Halloween but also to have on hand to give to friends and people you may meet.

Let's give those little gremlins something worth chewing on and shine some light into the darkness.

DON'T FORGET YOUR CARDS AND GOODIES FOR
CHARLIE CO., 7TH BATTALION 158TH AVIATION UNIT

This is our official outreach project. Thank you to all for your generosity last month; we mailed 11 boxes!  It means a lot to these young soldiers who are supporting our freedom in the very unfriendly environs of Iraq to know we remember them.

Items collected at this month's meeting should arrive by Halloween, so it might be fun to include some fun little Halloween items. Home-baked goodies, cards and letters are especially appreciated. Monetary donations are also needed for shipping and to purchase items.

If you are new to our group, visit the Troop Support Page  to learn all about Sabrina, daughter of members Paul and Coy Vasquez, and her unit that is serving in Iraq, read her blog, and view a list of items the troops especially appreciate. You'll even be able to download cookie recipes.

LOOKING AHEAD TO THE HOLIDAYS, we would like to have some especially nice local type items to ship in November and early December. If anyone can obtain donated items such as smoked salmon, local nuts, etc., that would be fantastic. If you have further questions, contact:
Sue Hewson at 503-703-1979.

OUR MOST IMPORTANT JOB!

CALL, EMAIL, FAX -- EVERY DAY!  OUR LEGISLATORS ARE BEGINNING TO PAY ATTENTION, BUT WE MUST KEEP THE PRESSURE ON SO THEY KNOW WE HAVEN'T GONE BACK TO SLEEP! The amount of time Oregon 912 members can devote to attending general and committee meetings, rallies and other events varies—some have young families, others are retired; some work 6 or 7 days a week, others have flexible schedules or are unemployed. But what we all must do to the best of our ability is keep abreast of the issues and commit to contacting our legislators and government officials. (Be aware that the opposition is highly organized and well financed, and employs people to volunteer and call and show up at rallies. However, we have truth and conviction on our side—these cannot be faked or paid for!  WE ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE!

GLENN BECK AT SAFECO FIELD

About 10 Oregon 912 members were among the 7000 people who gathered to hear Glenn Beck speak at the Evergreen Freedom Foundation event on September 26.  Particularly exciting is that when Bob and Carla Pletka had their turn to meet Glenn, Bob was able to hand Glenn a copy of "We Surround Them", the song that Bob wrote. Glenn noticed Bob's 9/12 tattoo and remarked that he'd seen it on the internet. He promised he would listen to the CD, and reiterated his promise later at the book-signing. So, we’re crossing our fingers that people across the country will soon be marching to its beat!  Additionally, Bob has received orders for our 912 tee shirts from people who saw them at the event!

When member Linda Matthews shared with Glenn at the Book-signing that she  was celebrating her 60th birthday at the event, he gave her a birthday hug and asked everyone in line wish her a happy birthday!

Anne Brown was touched by the powerful tribute to veterans given by Silver Star and Purple Heart recipient James Eachin.  Our tee shirts were the vehicle that enabled her to network with new and potential 912 members in the crowd and invite them to our next meeting.

Liz describes Glenn's speech:
Glenn was energetic, funny, touching, honest, inspiring, fearless -- all the characteristics that we see him display on his show daily.  He spoke about what it is to be an American.  A subject I never tire of because for far too long, we have heard all the negative qualities about our country.  I did not want it to end.  The audience was around 7500 in number and a very excited, enthusiastic and supportive group.  It was great to see all ages! Everyone in attendance agreed that it was a powerful and inspiring testimony to We the People!
